Welcome to Theories of Counseling (PSYC690-31)

Dear Students,

Welcome to Theories of Counseling (PSYC690-31). I am very pleased to have you in this course and look forward to working with you as you expand your knowledge of counseling theories and develop a strong foundation in therapeutic practice.

This course will be supported through Moodle, which will serve as our central hub throughout the semester. Weekly materials—including required readings, articles, and lecture slides—will be posted on Moodle, typically several weeks at a time, to allow you to plan ahead and engage with the material thoughtfully. Please make it a habit to check Moodle regularly for updates and announcements.

During our first week, we will focus on orienting you to the course. This will include a review of the course syllabus, which is already available on Moodle. We will also spend time discussing your individual goals for learning various therapeutic orientations and the underlying theories that guide clinical work. In addition, we will use this initial class meeting as an opportunity to introduce ourselves and get to know one another, helping to establish a collaborative and supportive learning environment.

Office hours will be scheduled as needed, and I encourage you to reach out if you have questions, would like clarification on course content, or want to discuss your learning and professional goals as we progress through the semester.
