This course
explores the various media outlets--print, broadcast, and digital--for those
working in a broad range of public relations settings and discusses how to work
with these outlets effectively as a media relations practitioner. Case
histories and current events will be used to discuss various media outlets and
illustrate creative and timely planting and servicing of stories via messaging
platforms and media relations planning.
Discussion
of processes for building appropriate media kits; following ethical standards
and use of technology in communicating with the public; and relationships
between the promotion of products, services, and the entire organization will
be investigated. You will leave this course knowing how to research reporters
and outlets, develop a media relations plan and messaging platform, and how to
identify and prepare spokespeople.
