Welcome to NED 513: Culture and Diversity in Health Care! In this course, you’ll explore how culture shapes the way people understand health, illness, food, healing, and the health care system itself. Using Cultural Diversity in Health and Illness (9th ed.) as our guide, we’ll look at the traditions, beliefs, and lived experiences of diverse communities and how these factors influence health behaviors and outcomes.

We will be together for five weeks. Each week, you will participate in a different discussion forum where you will connect course concepts to real-world practice, reflect on your own cultural perspectives, and develop the skills needed to provide respectful, culturally responsive care as a future health professional.  By the end of the course, you’ll be better prepared to work with individuals from many backgrounds, communicate with cultural humility, and understand the role of diversity in creating equitable, effective health care.

In addition to the weekly forums, you will work on 2 assignments, 1 culture and diversity paper, and 1 research paper.  Dates, details, and rubric for these assignments will be posted by the end of this weekend (5/17).
