 Course Description: Students will develop a greater knowledge of basic design elements, refine their techniques and skill set, explore different mediums and analyze and apply compositional strategies through the drawing discipline. The course will be broken down into brief lectures, group demonstrations, and individual instruction. Drawing takes practice, patience, flexibility and time.

 Drawing exercises will be based on Betty Edward’s text and set up in the drawing studio. Students will be instructed on the proper handling and use of materials. Lessons involving basic media such as graphite and charcoal will be introduced through demonstration. Classwork and homework assignments will reinforce demonstrations and provide students with the experience needed to develop a visible drawing technique, style, and vocabulary.

 

We will critique work-in-progress as well as finished projects. Critiques are meant to develop skills of presentation and discussion and should be approached in a professional manner. The presentation of work is an essential part of the project as well as your development as a creative
