This course is designed to provide assistance for experienced educators in their effort to monitor and evaluate the implementation of curriculum, assessment, and accountability to improve student learning. (Prerequisite: EDL 728). This course is designed to extend and refine the knowledge and processes related to curriculum presented and explored in the Curriculum Theory and Evaluation EDL 728 class. The majority of the course will focus on gaining knowledge and strategies associated with curriculum input, namely materials and methods used by the teacher to deliver the curriculum. It will also focus on output; namely the assessments of the types and amounts of learning that have occurred because of the delivery of the curriculum as well as the collection and use of data as well as the issue of accountability.

The professional core courses, competencies and experiences for the Instructional Coach Endorsement program are designed to address the specific set of issues, knowledge, and competencies that are relevant to coaching, teaching, assessment and learning. Participants will participate in an examination of various assessment strategies and current methods of assessment, through the study of theory and effective practices in assessment translated into design. The philosophy of Pennsylvania’s Standards Aligned System (SAS) is embedded in this course experience, as well as the required field experiences. These experiences shall include the analysis of disaggregated student data to implement effective change in teaching and assessment practices will be explored to enable candidates to gain the knowledge and experience to work successfully with all school staff and the school community. Research based strategies for the assessment and instruction of diverse learners will be examined. The SAS Assessment Builder will be utilized to create an assessment at various grade levels. The Framework for Teaching Evaluation Instrument (Danielson, 2011 Edition) will be utilized to correlate all work to the appropriate Domains I and V.
