Enrollment options

This course is design as a bridge between high school and first semester music program coursework. Students with limited background in Music Theory and Aural Skills are recommended to complete this program during the summer before entering as a freshman based on theory placement exam score completed during the audition process, recommendation of music faculty, or other contributing factors. Much of the program is self-study throughout the summer weeks. The Music Theory and Aural Skills Preparatory Program provides rigorous remedial instruction as while also assessing student independent work throughout the three weeks prior to the start of the Fall semester. Lessons include:

  • The staff, notes, clefs, and pitches
  • Rhythm and meter
  • Basic ear training
  • Musical terms, symbols, and articulation
