ATTENTION: Changes to the Moodle Mobile App

  • As a result, the default Moodle Mobile App will no longer work with IU Moodle.


  • When you connect, you will be redirected to the IU Single Sign On page, where you will be asked to authenticate using your username and password.


KNOWN BUG: iPads (iOS9+) and OpenLMS 

  • There is a known issue with the Open LMS mobile app on iPads caused by Apple's IOS 9 update, which changed the way apps launch in iOS 9.
  • We recommend using the default mobile browser (e.g., Safari) until this bug has been resolved.

Below are answers to some of the questions you may have following recent developments here at eThink...

 

  • If eThink is no longer a Certified Moodle Partner, will the information in Moodle Docs still be relevant to our LMS platform?
    • Absolutely. Moodle is Moodle, it is open source and available to all. All Moodle Docs remain relevant.
  • Will future Moodle improvements and changes – i.e. integrating rubrics in the Forum activity – still apply to our platform?
    • Future improvements will be applied at upgrade, similar to how we've done this up until now.
  • Are we still technically using Moodle as our LMS, or are we now using Open LMS as our LMS?
    • You are using Moodle. You are not using the Open LMS Moodle flavor/codebase.
  • My understanding is that Open LMS is not open source – is this correct?
    • This is not correct. Open LMS is core Moodle plus a few custom plugins. The custom plugins are not open source, but they do not need to be used. The Open LMS product itself is open source Moodle. However, to be 100% clear, you are not on the Open LMS product. You are on core Moodle as run by eThink previously.
  • What is the relationship between Open LMS and Blackboard?
    • There is no current relationship between Open LMS and Blackboard. Blackboard was the former owner of Open LMS. I think you will find that Open LMS's customer service philosophy is very un-Blackboard and much more like the customer service you have experienced at eThink.
  • How will pricing and future contracts change now that ownership of eThink has changed?
    • There are no changes at this time. You have a current contract which remains valid. We do not anticipate any major pricing changes.
  • What other changes should we anticipate with this change? 
    • Brian Carlson, eThink's CEO, will be taking over as Head of Sales, and Cheryl Patsavos, eThink's COO, will be taking over as Head of Customer Support at Open LMS. One of the reasons that we've chosen this path is because Open LMS is committed to the customer service that eThink has created. Our goal is to carry eThink's practices forward into this new organization. There is a lot for us to collectively unpack, and I'm sure this process will bring some changes over time, but we will do our best to clearly communicate and explain any changes well in advance, and to ensure they are in the best interest of our clients.
